Do you use your smartphone to browse websites?

Google has recently published a new study, “Our Mobile Planet: Global Smartphone Users”, with Ipsos, a global market research company based in Paris, France. The findings of the research show how consumers use their smartphones, gathering data from the UK, the US, France, Germany, and Japan.

Jason Spero, Head of Global Mobile for Google, said: “Smartphone ownership has jumped globally – increasing 11% to 44% of the total population in Spain and by 7% to 38% of the total population in the US” – and added –  “Smartphone owners are always using their device – in France, 90% use their mobile devices to access the web every day.”

Statistics show that consumers are using their mobile phones to browse the web more often than their Mac or PC. Businesses should start considering to develop more mobile-friendly websites as Smartphone owners are using their device everywhere.

Smartphone owners are not just browsing, they are taking action – in the UK, 84% of smartphone owners look for local information on their mobile and 78% take action afterwards such as calling or visiting the business.”

Responsive Web Design offers the possibility of developing websites whose content can be displayed in the best possible way on any type of device, PC, MAC, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, etc. The approach for the future should be “think mobile first” because, if it works on a mobile device, it will definitely also work on a desktop.
